Pacific Crest Trail –  Splinter’s Cabin to Holcomb Creek – Sierra Club, Mountains Group
8am, moderate, 8 miles, 700 ft. elevation gain. Hike along Deep Creek up to Holcomb Camp. This section is maintained by the Mountains Group. Bring 1-2 qts. water and lunch. National Forest Adventure Pass required for parking. Call hike leader Bill Engs for information (909) 338-1910

Hike Leaders’ Appreciation Day – Lake Arrowhead Queen Boat Ride – MTHC
11:30am, easy, no walking. The club will have a special tour of Lake Arrowhead on the Queen with a special guest. Hike leaders will be treated but non-hike leaders will be welcomed to pay their own way. Lunch afterwards in Arrowhead. RSVP by October 5 to Mary (909) 337-5850

Deep Creek Hot Springs – Lake Arrowhead area - MTHC
9am, moderate/difficult, 6 miles, severe 600 ft. elevation loss/gain in 7/10 of a  mile. Plan on spending a couple of hours at the Hot Springs. Wonderful place to swim, kick back on the hot spring pools. Be warned, this is a clothing optional site. We will begin our return at 1:30pm with an approx. 2 hour hike out. Camp/Paddle the Colorado River at Telephone Cove, NV
Camp at Telephone Cove for several days of Colorado River paddle exploration. Between Cottonwood Cove and Catherine’s Landing. This isolated stretch of the river offers many coves to explore. If we have several cars, we can plan shuttle trips up the river as well as day trips from the camp site. Pacific Crest Trail – Onyx Summit to Arrastre Creek – MTHC
9am, moderate, 8 miles, approx. 800 ft. elevation gain. There is a variety of vegetation along the way in mostly lush forest. . Bring plenty of water, snacks, lunch, hat, and sturdy hiking boots. Adventure Pass will be required for parking at the trailhead. We will meet at the Von’s parking lot in Big Bear Lake to carpool to trailhead. Or meet at the Onyx Summit trailhead at 9:15am. What do rocks tell us?  a geology hike – Big Bear area – MTHC
9am, easy, 3 miles, 150 ft. elevation gain. We will see rocks in the field rather than museum hand specimens. You mean this rock tells us there was an ocean here? The other rock is the oldest rock in our mountains? How old is it? Come and learn and have fun in the process. At the end of the geology trip, Jim will do an optional, moderate 5.5 mile hike on the Pacific Crest Trail to loop back to the cars. Full Moon Paddle on Big Bear Lake
5:30pm.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will watch the harvest moon rise over the east end of Big Bear Lake. We will launch from Captain John’s Fawnskin Marina at 5:30pm. Check with Captain John’s to see if rental boats will be available. Otherwise bring boat, equipment, and Big Bear Lake permit. Don’t forget a flashlight or headlamp. 8am, difficult, 8-9 miles, some elevation gain/loss. Beautiful hike thru Deep Creek to Bacon Flat Rd (3N20) to Squint’s Ranch Rd (2N95) back to Splinter’s. Gray’s Peak – Sierra Club, Big Bear Group
8:30am, moderate/difficult, 7 miles, 1,120 ft. elevation gain. There you have a 360 degree view of Bear Valley, Holcomb Valley and the Mojave Desert. The trailhead is located on the west side of Hwy. 38, 6/10 of a mile west of Fawnskin, across from the Grout Bay picnic area. Bring water, snacks, hat, layered clothing, and good hiking boots. Adventure Pass will be required for parking at the trailhead. For information call Ed Wallace (909) 584-9407 This is a Peaks of Big Bear Hike, hikes to one of the five major peaks overlooking Big Bear Valley will be made at least twice during the 2008 hiking season. Those reaching all five peaks will be given a patch commemorating the effort.

Fish Creek Trail from Hwy 38 to Aspen Grove – MTHC
9am, moderate, 4-5 hours, with MANY stream crossing. During the height of fall colors, a spectacular trail that follows Fish Creek up to the Aspen Grove. Hiking poles and vibram soled shoes are recommended. Bring water, snacks and lunch. Don’t forget your camera. Delamar Mountain – Big Bear area – Big Bear Sierra Club
8:30am, moderate/difficult, 6- 7 miles, approx. 500 ft. elevation gain. Join us for fantastic views of Big Bear Valley and beyond. We will hike along the Pacific Crest Trail from Polique Canyon Road followed by a difficult, short climb to the peak. Bring water, snacks, hat, layered clothing, and good hiking boots. Mountain Top Hiking Club Annual Picnic – Potluck -- Splinter’s Cabin – Deep Creek
8:30am, all levels of hiking, along the Deep Creek area. National Forest Adventure Pass required for parking. Since the final portion of the road to Splinter’s Cabin is closed for repairs we will park at the gate and walk to Splinter’s Cabin for the picnic. We are combining with the Sierra Club hike that same day for those who wanted a harder hike. The club will provide drinks and sandwiches so bring a salad or dessert to share but be sure it doesn’t need refrigeration and is light since we have to pack everything in and out. Children’s Forest Exploration Trail – Running Springs area – MTHC
9am, moderate/difficult, 9 miles, 1,500 ft. elevation gain/loss. This is an excellent trail through a nicely forested and scenic area. We will stop midway at the top for lunch in the picnic area.  Bring water, snacks, lunch, hat, sturdy boots.. We will met at the Children’s Forest Visitor’s Center in Arrowhead on Hwy 18. Walk around Lake Arrowhead – MTHC
8:30am, moderate/difficult, 8.2 or 10.2 miles, small elevation gain. We will walk around Lake Arrowhead mostly on the dirt trail and the rest on paved roads. There are many, many steps so it is not any easy walk. Bring water, snacks, good walking shoes, layered clothing and money for lunch in Lake Arrowhead Village. The trail is broken into 16 segments that can be comfortably hiked in a day.
